Standard Life Investments Launches Singapore Office
Scottish firm Standard Life Investments (SLI), has opened a branch in Singapore to strengthen real estate investments in Asia Pacific. Choon Wah Wong will serve as Chief Executive Officer of Standard Life Investments (Singapore) Pte Ltd and Head of Asia Pacific Real Estate. With 16 years of experience in Asia Pacific real estate investment, Choon Wah Wong joins SLI from Partners Group, Singapore, where he was the Senior Vice President. The four-man team will also include Ted Roy, who relocated from the headquarters in Edinburgh to become Deputy Fund Manager. Jason Lam will be the Associate Investment Director, Asia Wholesale Sales, and will be relocating from SLI Hong Kong. Tervinder Chal will be the head of Asia Pacific real estate finance and operations.
SLI’s Chief Investment Officer and Executive Director, Rod Paris, said “The new team led by Choon Wah, along with our growing Asia Pacific team, will strengthen our regional franchise and extend our global investment and product manufacturing capability. Building presence on the ground in Singapore allows us to be closer to investors and gain deeper insight into regional markets.” The company already has a strong customer-base in Singapore, comprising of private banking and institutional investors. As a means of strengthening the Asia Pacific team, Mark Baker, Fund Manager for Emerging Market Debt has joined the Hong Kong office. SLI is one of the largest real estate investors in Europe, with $20.7 billion of assets, inclusive of direct real estate, public listed real estate and real estate debt. As at the end of June 2016, the company’s Emerging Market Fixed Income team was managing $1.5 billion of assets for its global clients.
